Edward Lazansky attended the High School of Music & Art in New York City. He received a BFA from Syracuse University and an MA from Oberlin College. He studied painting with Edwin Dickinson at the Art Students League in New York before moving to Paris, where he studied with Maurice Brianchon at the École des Beaux-Arts and André Chastel at the Sorbonne. On returning to New York, he designed sets for numerous Off-Broadway companies including the Theater for the New City and the Judson Poets Theater. He has worked as a scenic artist for the City Ballet, the New York City Opera, NBC Television and many feature films. He has been teaching Light, Color, and Design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn for a number of years and presently lives in the historic Maverick Art Colony in Woodstock, New York. His work has been exhibited in galleries, juried shows, and museums. He has been painting mostly landscapes for many years, in the Woodstock, NY area and in New England. A trip to the West opened his eyes to the awesome mystery of the Grand Canyon—its startling display of color, pattern, shape, and light.
